School Uses Met-Tile to Harmonize with Local Community

During the planning stages for the Avalon Elementary School in Perris, California, the building team sought a design that would coordinate with surrounding residential development. While standing seam roofing was originally considered because of its durability and low maintenance, the team wanted a product with more of a residential look. Met-Tile provided the light weight and performance features of metal roofing, combined with a tile facsimile profile that provided the right aesthetics.

About 64,000 sq. ft. of Met-Tile roofing in a custom Copper Penny color was used to cover seven buildings, including administration, library, a media center and classroom facilities. Met-Tile provided Spanish-style flashings to optimize the Mission look of the roof lines.
The $14 million, 51,000-square-foot custom-designed education facility was completed in 2005 by Barratt American (Lake Elsinore, Calif.), the developer of the adjacent, recreationally rich Villages of Avalon community. General contractor and construction manager for the project was ASR Constructors (Riverside, Calif.). DC Architects (Upland, Calif.) served as architect. The roofing contractor was United Contractors of San Bernardino, Calif.).
