Shown below is our new architectural specification guide for the Met-Tile roofing system. This spec conforms with the three-part format established by the Construction Specifications Institute (CSI) and is designed to guide architects in creating their own project specifications.

1.3.1 ASTM A 792 - Standard Specification for Steel Sheet, 55% Aluminum-Zinc Alloy-Coated by the Hot-Dip Process, General Requirements.

1.4 SUBMITTALS

1.4.1 Submit under provisions of Section 01300, "Submittals."

1.4.2 Product Data: Submit manufacturer's information on product properties and specifications, standard details, installation instructions and maintenance data.

1.4.3 Shop Drawings: Submit complete shop drawings and erection details showing the roof panels, elevations, plans, sections, details, flashings, accessories, methods and types of fasteners and proposed identification of component parts. (Shop Drawings to be provided by others.)

1.4.4 Selection Samples: Submit color chips for selection of color(s).

1.4.5 Verification Samples: Submit one sample of roof panel, in selected color. Include fasteners, closures and other panel accessories.

1.4.6 Certifications: Submit certification that roofing assembly meets specified loading requirements and has been tested to provide wind uplift resistance up to 230 mph. Submit test reports certifying the performance of the finish in regard to weathering (ASTM D4214, ASTM D 660, ASTM D661 and ASTM D714); formability (ASTM D 4145); salt spray (ASTM B117); humidity (ASTM D2247); reverse impact (ASTM D2794); pollution resistance (ASTM C 1549) and fire resistance (ASTM flame spread test). Submit test reports certifying that the finish also meets the ASTM E-903 solar reflectivity standard and complies with the Energy Bill of 2005.

1.5 QUALITY ASSURANCE

1.5.1 Manufacturer: Minimum of 10 years' experience in manufacturing roof panels similar to those required for project.

1.5.2 Installer: Any reputable roofing contractor with not less than three years experience in installing steel roofing and siding panels.

1.5.3 Field Measurements: Where possible, take field measurements of structural framing and substrate to receive the roofing, prior to fabrication of roof panels.

1.6 DELIVERY, STORAGE AND HANDLING

1.6.1 Delivery: Deliver roof panels to project site as packaged by manufacturer. Inspect roofing panels and accessories upon arrival at site. Notify manufacturer immediately of any damaged material.

1.6.2 Storage: If materials are stored outside, stack panels on pallets several inches off the ground, with wood supports placed at the center. Cover panels loosely with a tarpaulin to keep panels dry while permitting air to circulate. If a long storage period is required, store panels indoors in a dry area. Do not store near corrosive materials such as acids, salts, fertilizers, etc.

1.6.3 Handling: Exercise care in unloading, storing and erecting roof panels to prevent surface or other damage.

1.7 WARRANTY

1.7.1 Finish Warranty: Supply manufacturer's warranty which includes 20-year warranty against chipping, splitting, flaking, cracking or peeling of the finish under normal usage conditions. Normal usage excludes locations less than 1800 ft. from a salt water body.

PART 2 - PRODUCTS

2.1 MANUFACTURER

2.1.1 Provide products manufactured by Met-Tile, Inc., 1745 Monticello Court, Ontario, CA 91761.

2.1.2 Substitutions will not be acceptable.

2.2 ROOFING PANELS

2.2.1 Material: Aluminum-zinc alloy-coated steel sheet conforming to ASTM A 792. Panels and related flashings to be minimum 26 gauge (.019") thickness. For use within 1800 ft. from a salt water body, aluminum substrate is recommended.

2.2.2 Shape: Panel profile to simulate clay roofing tiles. Profile shall contain six, 1-1/2" high x 7.2" pitch corrugations for a total coverage of 36". Steps will be 0.7" deep, spaced on 12" centers. Each panel to include in its configuration: alignment ridges, accumulation grooves, fastener dimples and sinusoidal end cuts.

2.2.3 Weight: 125 lb per square

Note: Manufacturer will fabricate panels in lengths of 2 ft to 20 ft, in 1 ft increments (standard) or in fractional lengths (special).

2.2.4 Lengths: Panels to be supplied in varying lengths of ___ ft to ___ ft as indicated on shop drawings.

2.2.5 Finishes: Exterior finish shall be a two-part coating system based on a highly durable silicone modified polymer (SMP) technology. This system will include a primer using a very flexible polyurethane system, plus a polymer topcoat utilizing long-life ceramic pigmentation. Coating system shall be factory applied and oven-baked under controlled conditions by a coil coater approved by the paint manufacturer. Coating shall also include a stucco-embossed finish to enhance appearance and reduce gloss.

Interior finish used on underside of panels and components shall consist of a backer coat with a dry film thickness of one mil (.001") for extra corrosion protection.

Manufacturer's standard colors are Cotillion White, Morocco Red, Bravo Red, Spanish Red Tile, Ranchwood Brown, Mission Clay, Slate Gray, Gallery Blue, Meadow Green and Coral Blue. Special colors are also available. Contact Met-Tile for further information.

2.3 MISCELLANEOUS MATERIALS

2.3.1 Accessories: Provide sheet metal flashings, trim moldings, closure strips, caps, and other preformed metal panel accessories, of same material and finish as panels except as otherwise indicated. Provide metal thickness not less than that of panels. Provide molded closure strips of closed-cell or solid-cell synthetic rubber, neoprene, or polyvinyl chloride premolded or cut to match configuration of roof panels. Provide sealing tape and joint sealant as recommended by the manufacturer.

2.3.2 Fasteners: Provide hex head steel fasteners painted to match roof panels, with sealing washers as recommended by the manufacturer.

2.3.3 Underlayment: Minimum No. 30 asphalt-impregnated organic roofing felt or higher as required by local codes.

Retain above underlayment for installation over solid substrate; retain type below for installation over open wood rafters or steel purlins.

2.3.4 Reinforced underlayment: Reinforced plastic foil or polyfilm for use as a vapor barrier.

2.4 FABRICATION

2.4.1 Fabricate and finish panels and accessories at the factory using manufacturer's standard procedures and processes, as required to fulfill indicated performance requirements demonstrated by laboratory testing. Comply with indicated profiles and with dimensional requirements as detailed on approved shop drawings.

PART 3 - EXECUTION

3.1 EXAMINATION

3.1.1 Verify that framing system and roofing substrate are in proper condition to receive metal panel roofing system. Do not proceed until unsatisfactory conditions have been corrected.

3.2 INSTALLATION

3.2.1 Underlayment: Install reinforced underlayment over open wood rafters or steel purlins.

3.2.2 Underlayment: Install felt underlayment over solid substrate.

3.2.3 Panels: Comply with manufacturer's instructions and recommendations for installation, as applicable to project conditions and supporting substrates. Anchor panels and other components of the work securely in place using fasteners and fastening patterns approved by the manufacturer. Allow provision for thermal and structural movement.

3.2.4 Accessories: Install components required for a complete roof panel system, including flashings, trim moldings, closure strips, caps and other preformed metal panel accessories.

3.2.5 Sealers: Install gaskets, joint fillers, and sealants where indicated and where required for weatherproof performance of panel system. Provide types of gaskets, sealants and fillers indicated or, if not otherwise indicated, types recommended by roofing manufacturer. (Sealers to be provided by others.)

3.3 CLEANING AND PROTECTION

3.3.1 Cleaning: Dispose of excess materials and remove all debris daily from installed panels. Use a magnet to remove metal slivers or shavings that may have resulted from field cutting of panels.

3.3.2 Touch-up: Repair minor scratches or nicks on the panel surface, if any, by means of finish touch-up using paint provided or approved by the panel manufacturer.

3.3.3 Protection: Do not permit storing, wheeling or trucking on top of applied roofing materials. Avoid walking on roof and do not step on crown of the tile portion. Provide temporary walkways or platforms as necessary to avoid damage to applied roofing system. Replace any work that becomes damaged prior to final acceptance.
