This custom residence in Astor, Florida features an interesting combination of log construction and Met-Tile tile facsimile roofing. The design was a collaborative effort between the homeowner and the builder, Richard A. Trapp Builders of Silver Springs, Florida.
The Met-Tile profile with a Spanish Red Tile finish complements the log siding while providing all the functional characteristics that are needed in the Florida climate, including excellent hurricane resistance (230+ mph wind rating), fire resistance, low maintenance, and energy efficiency.
Installer J&M Roofing reports that the split log siding created some special installation challenges. They used flashings behind all the logs, as well as exposed counter flashings on the outside of the logs, to make sure the roof would be weather-tight.
