Haiku Plantations after (above) and before (below).

At Haiku Plantations (Kaneohe, Hawaii), on the windward side of Oahu, roofs are constantly subjected to punishing conditions that include intense tropical sunlight, heavy rains, high winds, termites and more. It was therefore not surprising that a conventional cedar shake roof - the second roof to top one of the 20+ year old homes in the subdivision - had deteriorated badly and needed to be replaced. Tired of the wind blow-off problems they had experienced with shakes, the homeowners decided to upgrade to a tile-look roof for better appearance and performance.
They liked blue ceramic tile roofs, but the ceramic tiles were prohibitively heavy. The homeowners looked at a variety of metal products and selected a Gallery Blue Met-Tile roof. They received approval from the governing board at Haiku Plantations because of Met-Tile's authentic tile look.
J&K Roofing (Honolulu) installed the new roof directly over open purlins with no need for a plywood deck, batten grid or other sub-structure. The homeowner is very pleased with the roof and has received many favorable comments.
