"I think many people are starting to realize the benefits of this type of roofing." |
The roof used to be a constant maintenance headache for Carolina Beach, N.C. resident Oscar Norris. "When my house was built around 1990, it had an asphalt shingle roof that was very prone to damage," reports Norris. "I kept an extra 10 squares of replacement shingles on hand, and I had to apply them about seven different times after storms blew off various sections of the roof. "The worst problem occurred in 1997 when Hurricane Fran tore off 20 percent of the shingles, resulting in around $20,000 of roof-related damage. With water pouring into my house and sheet rock falling down, I decided it was time to investigate something different," he says. |
